Drivers in Virginia face many obstacles every day. Other motorists may be distracted, someone may not stop at a stop sign or maybe someone is driving too fast and loses control of their car. Many car accidents are caused because of a driver being distracted, speeding or driving under the influence. When these conditions combine with a dangerous road, it can be recipe for disaster.
Residents in Halifax County are asking the Halifax County Board of Supervisors to widen a section of road in their county. Buckshoal Road/State Route 601 has had four fatal accidents and many more nonfatal accidents in recent years. The residents have already acquired 400-500 signatures asking the county to widen the road and remove some of the curves. The Virginia Department of Transportation is currently conducting a study of the road and is looking into long and short-term solutions.
Of course, dangerous roads don’t cause accidents all by themselves. Car accidents can happen anywhere, but when you combine a distracted driver with a dangerous road the results can be deadly.
