Bus driver strikes car, kills 27-year-old and injures 11 kids

On Behalf of | Oct 23, 2013 | Car Accidents

A young man with a wife and two children was killed in a Virginia car accident recently, and police are looking into the circumstances of the crash to try and figure out how it happened. The 27-year-old man who was victimized in the wreck was recently identified by investigators.

The crash occurred in Virginia Beach, where a school bus collided with a small car that had stalled out on the road. The driver of that car — the 27-year-old man — was outside of his car when the bus suddenly crashed into the vehicle from behind. The bus driver was not hurt, but 11 of the 35 students that were on board the bus were taken to local hospitals. Thankfully, none of them were seriously injured. They were all released shortly after being admitted.

Now all eyes will turn to the investigation into the crash. The police are apparently interviewing witnesses to the accident, and will analyze the data and evidence they recovered from the scene to try and piece together what, exactly, happened in this crash. Part of that investigation will inevitably take them to the bus driver, who is now on administrative leave.

Just like with any truck, bus or commercial vehicle accident, the driver of these vehicles is put under intense scrutiny, and for good reason. Some drivers do not have the proper training or validation to drive these vehicles. It may sound impossible and unbelievable, but it has happened. In addition, the mental state of the driver can be questioned. Was he or she drunk? Was he or she too tired to operate a vehicle? What about distractions, such as a cellphone?
