Even when a Virginia driver diligently pays attention to the road and drives in a safe manner, no guarantee exists that he or she will not end up in an accident. It is nearly impossible to predict the behavior of other drivers. For instance, a driver recently involved in a head-on collision had no way of knowing the juvenile behind the wheel of the other car was going to lose control of his vehicle.
Authorities still do not know what caused the young man to lose control of the vehicle and careen into the woman’s path. Fortunately, both drivers survived the crash, but not without suffering serious injuries. Reports indicate that the woman and the boy were conscious when emergency personnel arrived. They were taken to the same area hospital after which they were flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center.
The woman required an unknown surgical procedure the night of the accident, and no other information was readily available regarding her condition. The other driver suffered injuries all over his body due, at least in part, to the fact that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. At last report, he was in stable condition in the intensive care unit at the medical center.
Authorities indicate that charges may be filed in connection with this head-on collision. The woman retains the right to file a personal injury claim in an attempt to recover the undoubtedly large amount of medical bills she is incurring as she receives treatment for and recovers from her injuries. If such a claim is successful, she may be awarded damages to cover those medical costs along with other damages such as lost wages and pain and suffering.
