Family vacation ends in tragedy due to Virginia car crash

On Behalf of | Apr 30, 2014 | Car Accidents

An out-of-state family traveling home from a spring break vacation was forced to make an unintended stop in Virginia recently. The family of three and a family friend were involved in a car crash on Interstate 295. Fortunately, everyone survived the crash, but three of the four suffered injuries that required hospitalization.

According to reports, the father, mother, daughter and family friend were traveling in the center lane of the Interstate. For some reason, a vehicle in the right lane abruptly made a left turn directly into the path of the vacationing family. The mother, who was driving at the time, attempted to stop, but it was too late. She crashed into the other vehicle, but her quick action kept the accident was being any worse.

The mother, father and family friend from Massachusetts all suffered serious injuries and, at last report, were still in a Virginia hospital being treated for their injuries. The 14-year-old daughter did suffer injuries, but she did not require a stay at the hospital. Unfortunately, her friend, also 14, suffered a head injury that required surgery, and she is considered to be the most seriously hurt of the four. The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and took full responsibility for the accident.

It was not reported whether the admittedly at-fault driver would face any charges in connection with the crash. Even if he does not face criminal charges, he could face personal injury claims in connection with the serious injuries suffered by the mother, her husband and the family friend. Since he readily admitted fault to the police, proving negligence in this case should not be difficult. Once a civil court is convinced of the driver’s negligence, damages may be awarded that could help with the financial burdens placed on this family and the family of the daughter’s friend.
