A number of different factors can cause a serious car accident. Some of these factors can be out of the control of drivers — like sudden obstacles in the roadway — but, many times, drivers’ behavior causes dangerous car accidents. Specifically, speeding, or going too fast for conditions, if often very dangerous and a contributing factor in many car accidents.
Recently, some suspect speed was the cause of a very serious accident in South Richmond. In this case, the accident occurred at the intersection of 31st West Street and Semmes Avenue. According to reports, a car was traveling westbound on Semmes Avenue and was trying to turn left on to 31st West Street when it was hit. It was hit by a car that had been traveling eastbound on Semmes Avenue.
Following this collision, two people were hurt. In fact, paramedics had to work to save the life of one of the drivers. Police continue to investigate the accident to determine why it happened.
Neighbors in the area say that speed is often a concern on these streets. They claim that people often ignore the 35 miles-per-hour speed limit and drive much faster. These neighbors say it’s not unusual for cars to be going as fast as 55 miles-per-hour down the street. Many fear for their safety and are working with a city councilman to reduce the speed limit to 25 miles-per-hour.
When speed or other driver negligence causes a car accident, the negligent driver can be held accountable. Through a personal injury suit, negligent drivers can be forced to pay damages those injured in a car accident. These damages can include medical expenses, lost wages, rehabilitation costs, pain and suffering and more.
While a personal injury suit cannot take away the emotional trauma caused by an accident, these damages can help prevent financial ruin.
