Truck accident in Virginia kills 18-year-old woman

On Behalf of | Aug 5, 2015 | Truck Accidents

When two vehicles collide and one of those vehicles is much larger than the other, the consequences of that collision can be very serious for the occupants of the smaller vehicle. That is a major reason why many truck accidents are devastating. In many cases, the accident was either caused by the truck driver’s negligence or the improper maintenance of the truck by the trucking company. Fortunately, victims of truck accidents can hold those drivers and companies liable for the damages.

Recently, an 18-year-old woman who was riding in the backseat of a car was killed when her vehicle was struck by a tow truck that the American Automobile Association in Virginia Beach owned. According to reports, the tow truck was coming from the opposite direction. The truck struck the victim’s car when the driver of that car was attempting to make a left turn.

The collision forced the victim’s car to spin and come to a complete stop across two lanes. In addition to taking the life of the 18-year-old woman, who died at the scene of the accident, the crash injured two other occupants of the car as well. One of them was the deceased victim’s mother, who suffered serious injuries, and the other occupant was the deceased accident victim’s sister, whose injuries were reported to be life-threatening.

This incident is yet another example of the extent of damages that a truck accident can cause. Taking that into consideration, the victims and their families may wish to consider pursuing legal action against the truck driver and the trucking company in order to claim damages. The damages may not fill the void created by the loss of a loved one, but it can surely provide financial support to the family, which is probably the most important resource at a time when a family is dealing with a crisis as serious as this.
