Drivers throughout the state of Virginia need to take care to follow all of the rules of the road. While people may not think that rules — like speed limits — are all that important, they are in place to help prevent car accidents. When people fail to follow basic safety rules, others can be injured. People can do everything right and still a negligent driver can cause serious injuries.

This seems to be the case in an accident that happened in Danville, Virginia. According to reports, the car accident occurred at 5:55 p.m. on South Boston Road. Police claim that the driver of a 2004 truck was driving on the road the wrong way. Apparently, the driver had crossed the centerline and was driving westbound in the eastbound lane.

Near the intersection the truck hit another car that had been stationary at the intersection. This caused a chain reaction where the second car hit a third car which then hit a fourth car. This chain reaction injured multiple people. Reports claim that at least five were taken to a local hospital to be treated for the injuries they suffered in this car accident.

The driver of the Nissan has been criminally charged in the case. This driver faces charges for driving a vehicle not under control and failure to drive on the right side of the highway. Several of the cars involved in the accident suffered thousands of dollars in property damage as well.

While criminal charges may seem appropriate after a driver causes a car accident, victims may not benefit directly from these types of cases. Instead, victims may need to take their own action in civil court to receive compensation for their injuries.

In a personal injury suit, drivers can receive compensation from negligent driver who have caused a car accident. This compensation can include lost wages, medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, pain and suffering and more.
