Tom Vilsack, the current Secretary of Agriculture, knows rural America. While ACA has been hotly argued about and, no doubt will be amended or modified, the Secretary explains the importance of ACA in rural America, including southside Virginia. Whatever Congress and the new President put forth, the ACA’s key provisions: no exclusion from coverage for preexisting conditions, no lifetime cap on benefits, and the ability of families to maintain insurance on children under age 26; are crucial to everyone. We have practiced in consumer bankruptcies for more than 35 years, in many capacities and on different sides, but unexpected health problems and expenses have always been a key factor hurting working people and their financial conditions. Since Congress gave in to the credit card industry and eliminated the principle of allowing a “fresh start”, those medical issues are even more important.
